Increase in the number of Local Government Units (LGUs) that allow civil society organizations, public organizations, the academe and religious groups to participate in local governance. From 201 in 2011, it jumped to 623 during the first 6 months of 2012.

Percentage of LGUs in the country that have complied with the DILG’s Full Disclosure Policy (FDP) as of June 2012. The FDP requires local officials of provinces, cities, and municipalities to fully disclose particular financial transactions of the LGU to keep their constituents informed of how the LGU budget is managed, disbursed and used.

Number of LGUs that have qualified for the Seal of Good Housekeeping as of June 2012. The Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) was a major initiative of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo for local governments that have practiced transparency and have engaged their constituents in governance.

Number of LGUs that have already streamlined their business process licensing systems within a two-year period. This has raised revenue collection by as much as 7% in Lapu-Lapu City and 18% in Butuan City.

THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
On August 31, 2000, then Mayor Jesse M. Robredo was conferred the Ramon Magsaysay award for government service. The first Filipino Mayor to earn the award, Robredo was credited for revitalizing the city of Naga, which earned it a spot in Asiaweek Magazine’s Asia’s Most Improved Cities. In his acceptance speech Robredo said “Public servants are servant leaders. Their mission is ‘to serve and not to be served.’” He served as Naga city’s Mayor from 1988 to 1998 and again from 2001 to 2010.
