The country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth for the first quarter of 2012, a significant increase from the 4.9% growth the country posted in the same period in 2011. The improvement was attributed to the government's strong infrastructure spending and its conditional cash transfer (CCT) program.

Rank of the Philippines out of 132 countries in the World Economic Forum’s most recent “Global Enabling Trade Report”, a significant improvement from 92nd out of 125 in 2010. This improvement was attributed to the country’s improved tariff policies and border administration relative to other economies.

Cost of the upgrading of the 35-year old Navotas Fish Port Complex (NFPC). The upgrading of the 47.5-hectare fish port complex is expected to be fully accomplished by 2015.

This Week in History

 

On May 28, 1946 Manuel Roxas took his oath as the third President of the Philippines. He is the last President of the Philippine Commonwealth. Roxas’ tenure as the President of the Philippine Commonwealth only lasted 37 days due to the  inauguration of the third republic and the grant of full independence by the Americans to the Philippines. Roxas, however, would continue to hold office as the first President of the third republic, a position he would hold until his death.
